Dorothy A. Comfort—1/13/2018

Dorothy A. Comfort, age 93, of the Birches of Arbor Square, Harleysville died on January 13th at Gwynedd Square Center in Upper Gwyedd. Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late William Henry and Esther Waite Sachs.

Mrs. Comfort was a homemaker and a volunteer. Her volunteer efforts began in World War II, when she was active in the USO and from there continued a lifetime of service to others. She was an active member of the “Temple Cleaners” at St. Marie Goretti Church as well as the Legion of Mary for over forty years including many hours of volunteer work at the former Villa of Divine Providence in Lansdale. She sang for many years with the St. Stanislaus Volunteer Funeral Choir.

Dorothy was active in the Hatfield Township Democratic Party working the polls at many elections. As a member of the “Greater Friends of Norristown” she went once a month to Graterford Prison where she played bingo and engaged in other activities with senior prisoners in the chapel.

Mrs. Comfort’s husband, Robert E. Comfort, died in 1977.

Survivors include her sons; Michael G. Comfort of Norristown and Sean B. Comfort and his wife Linda Burg of Lansdale, stepson Robert J. Comfort and his wife Dorothy of Quakertown, two step grandchildren Robert and Laurie Comfort as well as many nieces and nephews. She was the youngest of 7 siblings.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Mass on Saturday, January 20th at 11am at St. Marie Goretti Catholic Church, Derstine and Cowpath Rds. in Hatfield where the family will receive friends from 10 to 11AM. Interment Greenlawn Cemetery.
