Maryann Herzog Whalen—1/25/2018

Maryann Herzog Whalen, 77, of Paoli, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday, January 25, 2018 with her loving family by her side.

Born on August 30, 1940 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Ann and Rudolph Herzog.  Maryann will be forever remembered by her caring husband of 57 years, John Dalgliesh Whalen, Sr.

She is also survived by her four children and spouses:  John Whalen Jr. (Beth), Ann Travis (John), Bridget Gabriel (Cody) and Cathy Mulqueen (Kevin).  She was the loving Nana to her 10 grandchildren;  Lauren Whalen Scherwin (Jerry), Allison Whalen, John Travis Jr., Brittany Travis, Ronnie Gabriel, Rudy Gabriel, Ryan Gabriel, Caitlin Mulqueen, Annie Mulqueen, and Jack Mulqueen.  Also survived by her brother, Rudolph Herzog (Carol) for whom she loved dearly, and many relatives and friends to whom she treated as family.

Maryann, our matriarch, enjoyed gatherings which celebrated life.  She treasured sharing fond memories through her stories, writing notes to friends, baking, knitting, and of course sunsets and days on the beaches of Strathmere, New Jersey.  Maryann was devoted to God and had a fond place in her heart for the Norbertine Priests and the Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart.

Relatives and friends may call on Friday, February 2, 2018, from 9:30 to 11:00 am at St. Norbert’s Church: 50 Leopard Rd., Paoli, PA 19301.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am.  Interment private.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Maryann’s honor to St. Norbert’s Church, see address above or Daylesford Abbey, 220 South Valley Rd., Paoli, PA 19301.

Our gratitude for the extraordinary and compassionate care given by Dr. Donald Yih, Dr. Geoffrey Teehan and Mrs. Jen Dede.
