Catherine ‘Kay’ Slobodzian (Wladyka) of Montgomeryville passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, December 29. She was 97.
Catherine and her late husband Walt were married 50 years. Born September 2, 1921, she was the daughter of John and Bessie Wladyka of Ambler. She is survived by her daughter Linda (John) Carnation of Lederach, PA and Walter (Arlene) Slobodzian of Eagleville, PA.
She was the loving grandmother of John (Christine) Carnation Jr. and Melissa (Gregory) Walter. She had one great-grandchild, Lucas Walter.
]One of ten children, Catherine is survived by her sister Julia (Bob) Ferguson of Kintnersville and brother Raymond (Doris) of Warminster.
She is predeceased by her sisters Anne Schlotter, Mary Fuga, Helen Roberts, Emily Slobojian and brothers Walt Wladyka, John Wladyka and Michael Wladyka.
In addition, she was a loving aunt to many nieces and nephews.
She and her husband moved from Philadelphia to Montgomeryville in 1961, and spent the rest of their lives there, planting a large garden each year. They canned large quantities of tomatoes, made pickles and wine. Theirs was a large tight-knit family with many gatherings each year for holidays and picnics on the patio.
Catherine was a founding member of Presentation of Our Lord Ukrainian Catholic Church in Lansdale. She and many of the lady parishioners worked tirelessly for years making pierogis to raise funds to build the church and social hall.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to Catherine’s Requiem Mass on Thursday, January 3 at 10 am at Presentation of Our Lord Ukrainian Catholic Church, 1564 Allentown Road, Lansdale, PA.
The family will be receiving friends from 8:30 am to 10 am in church before services. Burial will follow at Saint John Neumann Cemetery on County Line Road, Chalfont.
