Timothy A. McAllister, Jr., 86, of Montgomery County (formerly of Philadelphia), died suddenly at his home on Sunday, January 13, 2019.
Tim, the son of Timothy, Sr. and Catherine (Dempsey), was born in Philadelphia on July 8, 1932. He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Rosemary (Hickey). Tim is also survived by his two loving sons, Thomas, of Jamison (Donna), and Charles of North Wales (Linda), his six precious grandchildren, Victoria, Matthew, Megan, Michael, Lauren, and Haley, and his dear brother, John.
Tim was a 1950 graduate of South Catholic High School. Following his graduation, Tim proudly served his country as a Sergeant for two years during the Korean War. At age 28, Tim went on to serve the City of Philadelphia as a firefighter for 32 years from 1960 through 1992. He was recognized and honored on numerous occasions throughout his career, receiving a unit citation award in 1968 for his heroic efforts in one of the Philadelphia Fire Department’s most dramatic rescue operations. Tim received two honorable promotions throughout his career: one to Lieutenant in 1969 and the second to Captain in 1982. Tim continued working as Captain until his retirement in 1992.
During Tim’s retirement, he traveled to Florida, Alaska, Hawaii, Bermuda, and Ireland with his wife, family, and close friends. He enjoyed countless summer vacations at the Jersey shore with his family and was part of many fond memories. He also visited his old gang in South Philly at monthly Tuesday lunches. He loved watching horseracing and his Philadelphia sports teams. Most of all, he grew to love his cherished iPad where he caught up on the news and wowed his wife with his daily discoveries.
Tim was a former member of St. Timothy’s parish in Philadelphia and more recently of St. Stanislaus parish. Tim especially adored his dear companion and wife, loved his two boys and brother, treasured his wonderful grandchildren, and valued his long-time friends.
Friends and family are welcome to attend Tim’s viewing on January 22 from 10:00-11:00 A.M. at St. Stanislaus in Lansdale, PA with the mass to immediately follow at 11:00 A.M. The burial will be at 2:00 P.M. at Washington Crossing National Cemetery in Newtown, PA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Tim’s name may be made to the Local 22 Widows Fund by mail at 415 North Fifth Street, Philadelphia, PA 19123 or online at GoFundMe at the Tim McAllister Memorial Fund for Widows Fund page.
