Hugh D. “Hughie” Wrigley, 65, of Harleysville, passed away on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 from complications of diabetes and heart failure. Born on October 23, 1953 in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Hugh T. Wrigley, Jr., OD and the late Catherine (Dougherty) Wrigley. He was the beloved husband of Patti (Ritz) Wrigley.
Hughie graduated from Lansdale Catholic High School, class of 1971 where he was a two-sport athlete, playing both basketball and baseball. He graduated from Kings College, Wilkes Barre, PA, in 1975 where he earned a BA in Business Administration.
In his early career Hughie worked in the automotive industry. In later years, he worked in the insurance industry as an Estate Planner.
Hughie was a Friend of Bill for over 7 years and was always the life of the party. He enjoyed many Grateful Dead concerts, often hitchhiking across the country to see a show. His sense of humor was one of a kind. He loved meeting new people. He had an encyclopedic talent for remembering the birthday of his friends, family and every new person he would meet. Once he knew your birthday, you could expect a call every year. Hughie was a loyal friend who remained close with his childhood friends through his adult life – once a friend, always a friend.
Like his mother Cass, Hughie was a lifelong Phillies Phan as well as an avid Eagles fan.
Hughie loved golf, the shore and spending time with his wife, children and beautiful granddaughter Sofia.
Sharing time and stories with his buddies at Cigar Cigars was a great pleasure. One of his favorite past times was to just get in the car and drive with no specific destination in mind.
Hughie was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He was the first to offer help and support to anyone in need.
Hughie is survived by his wife Patti of Harleysville, daughter Jackie Quattrone (Tommy) of Drexel Hill, son Mike of Harleysville, granddaughter Sofia Quattrone of Drexel Hill, sister Carole Peters (Steve) of Lansdale, brother Dave (Ann Marie) of Hatfield, sisters-in-law Susie Kratz (Rick) of Hatfield and Liz Koehler of Hornell Gardens, NY, nieces Colleen Johnson (Kurt), Shawnna DiGiacomo (Mike), Erin Allhiser (Matt) and Courtney Leatherman (Aaron), nephews Matt Peters (Kristin) and Adam Wrigley (Angela), and many great nieces and great nephews that he treasured. He is also survived by his rescue dog Chase, who was a marvelous companion in the last months of Hughie’s life.
He had a wonderful relationship with his siblings as well as their children and grandchildren. Everyone loved Uncle Hughie.
He married Patti on October 20, 1984. She was the love of his life and his best friend. Together they raised two children whom he cherished. Hughie loved being Sofia’s Pop-Pop and cherished every moment and every FaceTime session that they had together.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service on Saturday, September 28 at Simcox McIlvaine Funeral Home, 532 E Main St. Lansdale PA 19446. Visitation is from 10 am to 1 pm followed by a service at 1 pm.
As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the American Diabetes Association, the National Kidney Foundation or the King’s College Alumni Fund.
