Mary Margaret (Mickey) Algeo
May 26, 1939 – November 16, 2019
Mary Margaret (Mickey) Algeo (nee Filliben) passed away peacefully with family by her side at Abington-Lansdale Hospital on November 16, 2019. She is survived by her beloved husband of 60 years, James (Jim) M. Algeo, Sr. and her children: Mary Margaret (Maggie) and Michael deMarteleire, James (Jim) M. Algeo, Jr. and Mary Wilson, Mary Beth and Scott Dewey, M. Bridget Algeo, M. Veronica (Ronni) Algeo, Mary Frances and Jon Traywick, Mary Eileen and Justin Besachio, and John Patrick and Christine Algeo. Her son, Daniel (Danny), passed way in 2014.
She is also survived by 21 grandchildren: Michael deMarteleire, Jr., Jacqueline Stiles (William), Shannon Algeo (Pete DeLago), Sean Algeo, Anna Algeo, Sarah Algeo, Maeve Dewey, Moira Dewey, Rebecca Algeo, Dillon Algeo, Brayden Algeo, Scarlett Algeo, Mariah Dempsey (Tom), Jonathan Traywick, Rio Besachio, Ryan Besachio, Colleen Besachio, Joseph Algeo, Monica Algeo, Clare Algeo, and Mary Algeo; and two great grandchildren, Brynn and Will Stiles. Mickey is predeceased by her parents John and Elizabeth, and brothers John, Vincent, Robert, Edward, and Norbert, and survived by brothers Francis and James. Mickey graduated from Notre Dame High School Moylan in 1957 where she served as Senior Class Vice President. She earned an Associates Degree from Gwynedd Mercy College in 2006.
Raised in Glenolden, PA, she worked in fundraising for Maryknoll Fathers, as a ward clerk at North Penn Hospital, as a bus driver and cafeteria coordinator for St. Stanislaus School, and as Executive Secretary to the President of Gwynedd Mercy University.
Mickey was multi-talented and enjoyed many different activities, most of those centered around that which was most important to her – her family, and her Faith. She had a strong devotion to the Blessed Mother, was a Eucharistic Minister, participated weekly in Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, and taught Religious Education at St. Stan’s. Mickey loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, always finding a reason to celebrate them, whether it be a birthday, a good grade, or a winning jump shot or touchdown. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading books, watching the Hallmark Channel and detective shows, and spending time during the summer down the Jersey shore. Mickey delighted in her role as #1 Booster for the Lansdale Catholic Football Team for 44 years as she awarded stars and hatchets to helmets, kept jerseys bright under the Friday night lights, and cheered passionately from the stands.
Relatives and Friends are invited to attend Mrs. Algeo’s viewings on Thursday evening, November 21, 2019, from 4:30 pm to 8:30 pm at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, 51 Lansdale Ave., Lansdale, and again Friday morning, November 22, from 9 am to 10:45 am, followed by her Funeral Mass at 11 am. Interment private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Saint Stanislaus Catholic Church, 51 Lansdale Ave., Lansdale, PA 19446.
I learned of Mickey’s passing today as news of Jim’s death was published. Mickey’s loving nature allowed her not only to embrace each of her children and grandchildren but also all who entered her home. As there was always room in her home, there was always room in her heart. She was a blessing from God to many who crossed her path. I was honored to know her.
For many of us at Gwynedd Mercy, Mickey never failed to brighten our day. Her smile, courtesy, warmth & wit were infectious. We missed her when she retired, and now we’ll pray for her & her family.

I’m sorry I cannot be present to honor Mrs. Algeo’s life. The Algeo family has been a gift to the community and she, as the matriarch, provided an excellent example for us all. God bless her and may she Rest In Peace.

As a friend of the Algeo family in the neighborhood where we grew up, I clearly remember running through the backyard or playing nerf basketball in the Algeo’s kitchen and the firm, yet compassionate voice of Mrs. Algeo when our play had to be reeled in. And her laughter! When she laughed, you knew immediately that it was genuine and that it originated deep within her heart. Mrs. Algeo, we will always hold you close in our memories and hearts. Thank you for your love and guidance which will last us our life times.
Anyone involved in LC Football over the years, knew Mrs. Algeo as well as Coach Algeo. His beautiful ‘bride.’ She was a force in her own right … from driving the bus to dealing with the uniforms, helmets and raising nine children! What a tremendous life. Mr. Algeo, Maggie, Jim and the whole family, you’re in my thoughts and prayers.

I never met her, but am the mother-in-law of one of her daughters (Mary Beth Dewey). If Mary Beth is an example of the OTHER 8 children Mary Margaret Algeo had, she must have been a wonderful mother!!!
We were so sorry to hear about the passing of Mickey. Our family and the Algeos were neighbors in Lansdale. Our children and the Algeo children played together in the yard, alley and our home and the Algeo home. Mickey was such a nice person and great mother. I visited with Mickey at St. Stans when we were in town a few years ago. Our deepest condolences and love to the family.
Sincerely, Mary & John Landis
