Anne E. Diehl, of Collegeville, died suddenly on October 13, 2020 at Paoli Hospital just one day after her 76th birthday.
She was born in Philadelphia, the daughter of the late William E. and Margaret R. (Bergin) Diehl. The family moved to Lansdale in December of 1950 residing for many years in the home their father built on Crestview Road. The Diehls were lifelong members of St. Stanislaus Church and their large family attended the parochial school and Lansdale Catholic across several decades.
Anne is survived by her eight siblings: Peggy; Jean (Rich) Cubbage; Kathleen (Bob) Fluss; Bill (Dagmar); Trish; Susan Brady; Mary Jo (Dave) Hughes; and Mary-Beth (Dominic) DePaolo. She adored her fifteen nieces and nephews: Kate and Paul Fluss; Eileen and Andrea Cubbage; Elizabeth, John and Jessica Diehl; Danny, Allison, and Kevin Hughes; Joe and Tattie DePaolo; Lauren and Sean Brady; and is predeceased by her dear nephew, Jimmy Brady. As this second Diehl generation married, seven in-law nieces and nephews were welcomed and knew Aunt Anne’s great love: Dave Ashley; Kristen Fluss; Don Nelson; Jeremy Swords; Kelly Diehl; Monica DePaolo; and Tony Bongiovano. A third Diehl generation of twelve great nieces and nephews also delighted Anne: Aubrey and Hazelle Fluss; Keira, Molly, Nora, and Evelyn Nelson; Kayla and Karson Youch; Emma and Charlie Diehl; Joey and Michael DePaolo. Anne also has numerous cousins and is survived by her maternal aunt and namesake, Anne Lee.
Anne was a lifelong learner who devoted herself to furthering her career and her knowledge. She worked for a time after High School before returning to school at Thomas Jefferson University to become a Registered Nurse. Anne then pursued further nursing education to become a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist; a field in which she worked until her retirement, providing OR service and patient care at their most vulnerable time in many hospitals throughout the Philadelphia region. Penultimately, Anne returned to Ursinus College for the degree that would prepare her to attend Temple University School of Law, where she earned her Juris Doctorate. Her family believes passing the Bar was one of Anne’s proudest life moments.
Anne loved to travel and often treated her nieces and nephews to special trips or accompanied family on vacations to distant locations. She was a loving sister and daughter and would weekly visit her parents for family Sundays together at Crestview Road. Aunt Anne was a willing babysitter to her nieces and nephews across many years. She also was a great researcher and after detailed internet study, decided the Tibetan Spaniel was the breed for her. Anne’s beloved Robbie, followed by Mr. Green, were her constant companions.
Throughout her life, she was deeply caring and gave generously, though her true hallmark was advocacy for her loved ones and the many people who came into her professional care. Above all, Anne’s quick wit and strong personality will be missed and remain a treasured memory for so many.
Services will be held at St. Stanislaus Church, 51 Lansdale Avenue, Lansdale PA on Friday, October 23, 2020. Viewing from 9:30-10:30am, followed immediately by a funeral Mass. Burial will then follow at St. John Neuman Cemetery, 3797 County Line Road, Chalfont PA. Simcox-McIlvaine Funeral Home is providing all arrangements.
Keepingwith CDC guidelines, all who attend will be required to wear masks and observe social distancing.

I was looking up old friends from Jefferson as we prepare to celebrate 50 years since Nursing School graduation. I’m so saddened to read of Anne’s death. I remember her as a great friend. She was warm, witty, intelligent and fun to be with. Her patients benefitted from her dedication and compassion. My condolences to her family. She was a truly special lady.
I saw Anne’s notice in our Jefferson Alumni Bulletin. Anne and I went to nursing school together and she was in my wedding. I am sorry to hear about her passing.
I worked with Anne when she was hired as a CRNA at the endoscopy center. I know she loved her family, her sisters and all her nieces and nephews.
I know she is in heaven and in Peace.
God bless to the family
My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Susan, I don’t think I knew Anne, but I know you have a great Family 🙏🏻 Mac
Although I didn’t know Anne personally, the Diehl family, Bergin family, and McSherry family were intertwined by marriage. The McSherrys send their deepest condolences to the Diehls. May Anne Rest In Peace.
