Sarah A. Cummins—4/11/2021

Sarah A. Cummins, 96, of Hatfield, PA passed away peacefully on April 11, 2021. Sally was born to the late John and Sarah Marlin on October 29, 1924. She was the wife of the late Daniel J. Cummins, Jr. who she has dearly missed since 1962.

Sally was passionate about two things in her life: her faith and her family. She was the last survivor in a family of ten and will be happy to join her beloved husband Dan as well as her siblings Mary, Alice, Jack, Betty, Patricia, Aileen, Joseph, Jimmy and Dodie and their spouses at a great reunion in heaven. For more than 42 years Sally lived with her daughter Sally and her son-in-law Jack which kept her young as she enjoyed and engaged with her granddaughters (Erin, Meghan and Kelly) and their families.

As a young couple, Sally and Dan were founding members of Our Lady of Calvary parish in Northeast Philadelphia. Sally was a member of the Sodality, a leader in the Girl Scouts and a swim team mom. For decades she was a daily communicant. She was the rock supporting Dan in his role as a community leader, a parish leader and an Irish tenor singing at weddings and events. In the 1960’s, she was a committed participant in the Cursillo Catholic Retreat movement. As a retiree she served as an officer in her senior citizen group at Saint Stanislaus Church. Her career included secretarial work in parishes, the mental health field and the legal system but her favorite work was her time spent at “222” (The Archdiocese of Philadelphia) where she served as a secretary in Catholic Social Services. Highlights of her life included a two-week jaunt through Ireland with her son Dan in the 70’s, a pilgrimage to Fatima in the 80’s, and road trip adventures with her daughter Mary and her family in the 90’s.

Sarah is survived by her three children: Daniel (Beverly Buchanan), Mary Birkhead (Christopher) and Sarah Lister (John). She will be lovingly remembered by her ten grandchildren Erin Battisto (Robert), Meghan Callen, Kevin Birkhead (Rose), Kelly Landman (Ian), James Birkhead (Katherine), Kathryn Cummins, Colleen Gordon (Daniel), Sarah Cummins, Caitlin Garton (Daniel) and Daniel Cummins (fiancé of Alexis LaPrelle) and her 18 great grandchildren.

A viewing will be held at Saint Stanislaus Catholic Church 51 Lansdale Avenue, Lansdale PA on Monday, April 19 from 10:00 – 11:00 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Msgr. Richard Bolger at 11:00 am. Interment will be private on the following day.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to in Sarah’s name to Mater Dei Catholic School, 493 E. Main Street, Lansdale, PA 19446.
