Rosemarie (Kohne) O’Donnell passed away peacefully on the evening of Monday March 7, 2022 in her residence at Elm Terrace Gardens in Lansdale, where she had lived for nearly 12 years. “Romy” was born in Decatur, Indiana on July 13, 1926, to Raymond B. Kohne and Marguerite Leona (Bosse) Kohne.
“Romy” was preceded in death by her loving husband of 58 years, Liguori A. O’Donnell, Jr., her brother, Dr. Robert W. Kohne of Lafayette, Indiana, and sister, Kathryn A. Barbiere of Fort Wayne, Indiana, as well as her son-in-law, Brett A. Conley of Lansdale.
She is survived by her children: Hugh N. O’Donnell, Daniel J. O’Donnell, Thomas R. O’Donnell, his spouse, Lori A. O’Donnell, and Kathleen Emily Conley.
Romy is also survived by seven grandchildren: Maura B. Conley (Jacob Stone), James D. Conley, Casey A. O’Donnell, Hannah S. Conley, Sean T. O’Donnell, Kieran J. O’Donnell, and Rose Bui My O’Donnell, as well as one great grandson Conrad Ignatius Stone. They all brought her great joy!
Rosemarie graduated from St. Mary’s, Notre Dame, Indiana where she studied English and History and was recognized for her short story writing. Upon graduation she became a teacher in the Gary, Indiana public school system. She continued her studies at Indiana University, Bloomington and later received a master’s in Library Science at Villanova University. She also studied music from the age of five through adulthood and was a talented musician, both on the piano and accordion.
After marriage she continued to live in Gary, Indiana, and later lived in Madison, Wisconsin; San Francisco, California; and Falls Church, Virginia; finally settling with her family in Malvern, PA where she lived for 44 years. She worked as a school librarian for 28 years at Villa Maria Academy and was a parishioner of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. She was an avid reader and a lover of most music, especially jazz. She was involved in politics and traveled with her husband all over the world. Her family was always most important to her.
A viewing will be held at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, 51 Lansdale Ave., Lansdale, PA 19446 on Saturday March 12, 2022, at 9:30 to be followed by a funeral mass at 10:30. In lieu of flowers please send donations to Glenmary Home Missioners at PO Box 465618 Cincinnati, Ohio 45246-5618.
My brothers and I are all sad to say goodbye to our Aunt Romy. She was a wonderful person and an interesting, charming, accomplished lady. She will be missed everyone who knew her.
