John Jacob Smart—4/10/2022

John Jacob Smart, “Jake”, our loving son and brother, passed away unexpectedly on April 10th, 2022, at the age of 24.

He was born in Abington, PA on November 17th, 1997 to John and Sharon Smart. He attended Gwynedd Mercy Academy Elementary Class of 2012, LaSalle College High School class of 2016, and Penn State University, Altoona, and Abington.

Jake was a kind, funny, and compassionate soul. He easily made friends everywhere he went.  He had a smile that would light up the room.  He was a passionate Philadelphia sports fan. He enjoyed his time with family and friends in Avalon, NJ, and his favorite vacation spots St. Thomas and Aruba.  Jake was active in the 12 Step Fellowship Program.  He valued the many friendships that he made there.

Jake is survived by his parents John and Sharon and his sisters Carly (Charley) and Becca. He also leaves his maternal grandmother, Jane Pedicone, of Lansdale; and his paternal grandparents, John and Agnes Smart of Skippack. He is survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and lifelong friends who he considered family.

Jake was preceded in death by his PopPop, Gus Pedicone, who he shared a birthday with. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Simcox-Mcilvaine Funeral Home in Lansdale. Jake’s life will be celebrated on Monday, April 18th at Saint Stanislaus Church, 51 Lansdale Ave, in Lansdale. Visitation from 9-11:45 am is followed by Jake’s Funeral Mass at noon.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please consider donations to the Little Creek Foundation LTD, 1216 The Hideout, Lake Ariel, PA 18436 in the name of Jake Smart’s Scholarship Fund.  The program helps young men struggling with the disease of addiction. Recovery is not about being powerless; it’s about empowerment.

I thought I could always look forward to seeing his smiling face at some point or another. It’s hard to understand that I won’t anymore. I miss him and his sense of humor and kindness a lot.
