Nancy Jane Birnbrauer—8/4/2022

Nancy Jane Birnbrauer, (nee Stokes), beloved wife of Robert Birnbrauer, passed away peacefully in our Lord’s loving embrace on August 4, 2022, in her home in Upper Gwynnedd, Pa.

Nancy was born on August 19, 1950, in Norristown, PA, and she is predeceased by her loving parents, George Albert Stokes and Margaret Anne Stokes (nee Taglieber). Nancy is survived by her siblings Janet Ednie (Walt), Patricia Duffy (Peter), Margaret Weirich (Steve) and George Stokes (Helen).

Nancy was an Executive Assistant for the General Manager of General Electric Space Division in Valley Forge, Pa. As an avid golfer in her younger years, she was also a member of the GE league championship team. She retired from GE in 1980 to begin raising her family in Ambler, PA. When her children were of school age, she worked at her Parish, Corpus Christi Church in Lansdale, PA, during lunch programs.

Nancy was married to the love of her life, Robert, and they celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary on June 25th. She was a devoted mother to Brian Birnbrauer, Alan Birnbrauer (Kristina), Robyn Magee-Skinner (Andrew, deceased) and stepson Robert Birnbrauer (Christine). She was a role model to her children of high morals and grace, and her values will continue to lead them always.

Spending time with her seven grandchildren, Amanda Christofas (Joe), Alexandria, Arianna, Ethan, James, Sean and Mia truly lit up her days.  Nancy was blessed with one great-grandchild, Alanna. Even though Nancy was allergic to dogs, she loved her grand dogs, Kona, Katy and Oliver.

Family was everything to Nancy, and through her giving and selfless nature, she made everything so special for those she loved most. She loved entertaining large family meals and gatherings, especially during the holidays and at the Jersey shore. Her favorite vacation place other than the shore was Disney World, where she enjoyed vacationing with her sister-in-law Joy and Charles (deceased) Tomlinson, her sisters, and nieces. Her monthly card club gatherings were a highlight full of laughs and love. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews who have fond memories of her humor, kindness, and unconditional love.

Nancy did not want a public service, so that will be handled privately through the funeral home of Simcox-McIlvaine of Lansdale PA. Please share your memories and stories on their website or with her family.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the V Foundation for Cancer Research at https://www.v.org  or to the Travis Manion Foundation at https://www.travismanion.org. The family would also like to thank all those who sent their thoughts and prayers during her journey.

  1. I will never forget Nancy’s smile and her jokes at the Family Reunions. She was lovely to know and fun to be with. God bless her. Her cousin Kathy.

  2. Mrs. B was my favorite lunch mother at corpus, I even remember calling her “mom”…That’s how she made me feel; loved, happy, safe. I was lucky enough to have her as a client at the hair salon as well. Anyone who had the pleasure of knowing her was blessed beyond measure. Rest In Peace, Mrs. B.

  3. I’m so sorry to hear of Nancy’s passing! My heart breaks for her family! They are in my thoughts and prayers!
