Henry “Henie” James O’Hara Jr., 66, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday October 11, 2022 in his Audubon home. He was born September 15, 1956 in Lansdale, PA, the fourth of seven children. He was the son of the late Henry Sr. and Madeleine (Howe) O’Hara.
Henry was a proud Lansdale native that grew up on East Main Street, attended St. Stanislaus Elementary School, and Lansdale Catholic High School. He graduated from West Chester State College in 1978 with a degree in history education and went on to earn a juris doctorate from Delaware Law School at Widener College in 1981.
Henry spent more than 25 years practicing law in Montgomery County in both the district attorney’s office and private practice. In addition to his legal career, he worked as an adjunct professor in local community colleges and school districts as a substitute teacher in history and social studies.
As a longtime Montgomery County resident, Henry was very active in several area churches, local politics, and campaigns including one to keep Lansdale Catholic in Lansdale. He loved nothing more than discussing history, politics, current events, Fox News, and his beloved Lansdale. He was also an avid Philadelphia sports fan especially as an inaugural season ticket holder for the Philadelphia Union. At Shannondell Retirement Community, he integrated quickly into the community and became a well-known participant in many activities including choir, guitar jam, and current events club.
Henry is survived by his wife of 36 years, Theresa (Swift) of Audubon, one daughter, Jessica O’Hara (Maxwell Sissman), one son, Daniel O’Hara (Alexandra Paranac), two brothers, Robert O’Hara, John O’Hara, and three sisters, Maureen (Jeff) Stover, Sheila (Ned) Sweeney, Denise O’Hara, many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. In addition, Henry is preceded in death by one sister, Mary O’Hara.
Friends and family are invited to attend his viewing and Funeral Mass. The viewing will be held at Simcox-McIlvaine Funeral Home, 532 East Main Street, Lansdale, PA 19446 on Wednesday October 19, 2022 from 6-8 PM and Thursday October 20, 2022 from 9:30-11 AM. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday October 20, 2022 at 11 AM at St. Stanislaus Church, 51 Lansdale Ave, Lansdale, PA 19446. Internment will be held at a later date. I knew Hank from our years at West Chester State College, in the College Republican group. What a wonderful , thoughtful and fun guy. Prayers to his family.
From 5th grade thru our senior year at LC, Hank and I shared front/back seat assignments. A good man and a better friend, you just knew Hank would find his place in the world and achieve great things.
