Matthew Bauerlein—12/5/2022

The Bauerlein family is heartbroken to tell their friends and acquaintances that our beloved brother, Matthew Thomas Bauerlein (50) of Philadelphia, passed from this life on December 5, 2022.

Matt was born on April 19th,1972 to Agnes and Charles Bauerlein of Ambler, PA, the youngest of 11 children.  Matt grew up in Ambler and moved with his parents to Mount Airy at the age of 11. He graduated from LaSalle High School in 1990 and later received a Bachelor of Arts in History from Temple University in 2004. He worked for 16 years as a Social Services Program Analyst for the City of Philadelphia’s Department of Policy and Planning.

He was a beloved “favorite” uncle of 26 nieces and nephews, many of whom shared his passion for Philly sports teams, cheesesteaks, Star Wars, and watermelon Kool Aid. He loved music, camping, gardening, cooking, the Wing Bowl, and being with his pets.  He had a deep knowledge of Philadelphia’s history and politics and loved sharing this knowledge with others.

His loyalty, kindness, intelligence and sarcastic wit made him a great conversationalist. He was adored by an extended clan of long-time friends, many of whom he met in grade school. Matthew is preceded in death by his parents and survived by his 10 siblings: Charles Bauerlein Jr., Paul Bauerlein, Lisa Troncale, Marianna Bauerlein, Gretchen Voll, Heidi Hopkins, Trudy Orthey, Mark Bauerlein, Annie Mergott, and Judy Bauerlein.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to Operation Smile.

  6. Dear Family,
We are sad to hear that Matthew is passed away. We really enjoyed his visit to The Netherlands, Amsterdam in October 2018. He was proud to bring a portrait of his mother which he gave away to the restaurant “Mother’s” in Amsterdam. We had a lovely evening together eating traditional Dutch food. We remember him as a nice guy with lots of energy. May he rest in peace.
