Anthony J. Herzog—3/18/2023

Anthony J. Herzog, age 84, of Hatfield PA, died peacefully at home, surrounded by his wife, children, and siblings, on March 18, after a great St Patty’s Day gathering.

He was the beloved husband of Rita (nee. Hollinger) Herzog, who he was married to for 53 years. Super awesome father (and in-law) of Rita Garrison (Mike), Tony and wife Monica (Bell), and Carl and wife Robyn (Simons). His favorite grandchildren in alphabetic order are Dylan, Jami, Lea and Lily.

Born in Philadelphia with siblings Joseph (Flavia Mooney), Patricia Higgins (Wife of the late Francis), Kay Herzog Larkin, and Mary Ellen Herzog (Thomas Hare), he graduated from Mercy Tech in 1957 and then joined the Marines where he had training at Camp Lejeune.

After he left the reserves, he proceeded to have lots of fun down the shore with friends where he met his bride, Rita. His fun loving and loyal personality is only exceeded by his love of family. For many years after leaving the Corps, Tony was a heavy equipment operator for first the Herzog family business, then various other companies. Herzog Co. was involved in creating the new PHL airport terminals, the South Philadelphia subway extension, and the Oxford Valley Mall. He was also a roofer with Union 30, and after retiring was a school bus driver where he made many new friends.

Well known to get kicked out of all-you-can-eat crab specials with his Dad, Tony Sr., due to eating them all, he also loved to birdwatch at home with Rita. His other interests were Country dancing and woodcrafting. He had so many best friends, and nieces and nephews, it is hard to mention them all, but you know who you are.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Mr. Herzog’s Funeral Mass on Thursday, March 30, 2023 at 10:30 AM, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, 51 Lansdale Ave, Lansdale, PA, where the family will receive friends beginning at 9:30 AM, in Church, prior to Mass. Interment will be in St. John Neumann Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice or add birdseed to your local bird feeder. #crablife

  9. Oh my goodness… What a shock! My husband, Jim, used to say that Tony was the most real person he had ever met. I certainly agreed with him… And I will add Rita to that list! I have lots of favorite memories of Tony and Rita. One of my best memories was down in Ocean City and Tony was lying in the sand and little Rita came along and sat on his face. We laughed so hard. I have been praying for Tony for quite some time now, and I am so relieved to read that he died peacefully with his family around. Rest in peace, Tony.
Sending my love and prayers, Rita, and family!
