Zerelene E. Jones, better known as Zerky, age 90, of North Wales, PA passed away on May 9th, 2023. Zerky is survived by her husband of 66 years, Isaac Jones Jr., her son Isaac Jones III, and her two daughters, Yvonne Jones and Yvette Jones.
Zerky grew up in Lafayette, Louisiana, where she graduated from Paul Breaux High School and received her college degree from Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She served two and a half years in the Air Force, where she met her husband, Isaac. They started their family while living in Kansas City, Missouri but moved numerous times, living in upstate New York, Colorado, and New Jersey then retiring to Louisiana until a couple of years ago, when declining health forced a move to Pennsylvania to live with her daughter, Yvonne.
She easily made great friends wherever she lived. She thoroughly enjoyed being a physical education teacher and tennis coach during the early years. Her favorite past-time was playing bridge, traveling the country to attend tournaments and becoming a Life Master, as well as a beloved teacher of the game for many.
As the daughter of a pastor, she loved being involved with the church, no matter where she was and maintained regular attendance until the end. Being able to attend church allowed her to feel that she was living life to the fullest.
A memorial service will be held in Zerky’s honor at Montgomery Square United Methodist Church, 1900 County Line Rd, North Wales, PA 19454 on Saturday, June 24th at 11 a.m. The Jones family will also receive visitors from 10 a.m. – 10:45 am prior to the 11 a.m. memorial. Our family is grateful to know and believe that she is finally at peace.
I miss my friend. We sat next to each other in the choir. Often she’d turn from the congregation and sing to me! I asked Mathilda to find a duet for us. Zerky was love personified. We shared so many fun times–at church, in book club, on the dance floor and there was always laughter and wonderful stories. In my ear she’s still singing her song as no one else could do it–He’s on time, He’s on time, Yes, He’s on time! I am so grateful for the TIME I had with you my dear friend. So glad the good Lord let you pass my way.
I didn’t know Zerky very long but she left a lasting impression on me. I met her at one of the Trinity C.M.E. Senior Citizen’s’ meeting and she taught me how to play bridge.
I will miss her more so when we start meeting again.
Rest In Peace Zerky!

Zerkey was such a great person who didn’t say much but when she did it all made sense. Enjoyable to be around, sweet and supportive.
I formally met “ Zerky” while attending “ Senior Citizen Ministry “ I was not sure of the pronouncement of her name. She said; “ Can you say, “Turkey?” I responded Yes, “ Well, now you have it!” She continued her walk. We met nearly every Tuesday & Thursday for several years, our friendship grew. I took lots of pictures of her.
“So with you: Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy.”
John 16:22
Zerky taught me how to play bridge. I took lessons from her in Lafayette, Louisiana for 6 years. She made the game look easy but it was anything but that! I loved how straightforward she was and she might have made me cry once but not enough to keep me away from her lessons. I’m sure she’s already got a duplicate game going in heaven! Rest in peace dear Zerky!
Zerky was a life/long friend! I will truly miss her alto voice and long discussions on any subject. May God Continue to Bless you in your new Heavenly Home.

Love you Mom. Wish I had been as good a son as you were a mother. Isaac III
