Edward Anthony Curry Jr. passed away peacefully at the age of 89 on Friday, June 23, 2023, at Elm Terrace Gardens in Lansdale, Pennsylvania. He was born on September 14, 1933, in New York City to Edward A. Curry, Sr and Jeanette (Bogdanowicz) Curry. He was the oldest of seven children and had a wonderful childhood in Washington Heights.
He attended Incarnation School and George Washington High School where he played basketball.
He married the love of his life, JoAnn Gianatasio, at St. Gabriel Church in Riverdale, NY, on April 19, 1958, honeymooned in Niagara Falls and had 39 wonderful years of marriage. He was employed by Sperry/Univac which became Unisys as a Business Systems Analyst and then Manager for 40 years. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force where he proudly served during the Cold War from 1952-1956 at various locations throughout the Country. He received the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal while in the Air Force.
He lived in New York, West Virginia and settled in Lansdale, Pennsylvania in 1970. Saugerties, New York was a favorite place and had a very special place in Ed’s heart.
Ed loved playing golf and watching golf and played on the Unisys Golf League for many years. He especially enjoyed his yearly outings to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. He was an avid Eagle fan and enjoyed traveling the world especially to Spain, Italy and Switzerland. He had a passion for gardening, especially vegetables and roses. One of his favorite pastimes was playing the slots at numerous casinos from Las Vegas to Atlantic City. Ed’s favorite casino was Atlantic City’s Hardrock Hotel and Casino.
Edward was a devout Catholic and contributed to countless charities.
He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, attending musical and variety shows and watching movies, especially old Westerns. He lived life to the fullest and was extremely witty with a unique sense of humor. Ed loved to have a good time and was always the life of the party.
He will be deeply missed by his adored daughters, Julie (Raymond) Cios of Mrytle Beach, South Carolina, and Joanne(Michael) Finkelston of Trumbauersville, Pennsylvania, and his beloved grandchildren whom he was extremely proud of: Andrew (Shauna) Finkelston, Jacquelyn Cios and Kacie Jo Cio, all of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Eric Finkelston and Kristina Finkelston of Trumbauersville, Pennsylvania. Ed is also survived by his cherished siblings Helen (Frank) Avagliano, George (MaryEllen) Curry and Debra (Gary) Littlefield and his brother-in-law, John Blake and sister-in-law, Barbara Curry, all of New York. Ed, Uncle Ed or Eddie, as he was fondly known, is also survived by many wonderful nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Edward was predeceased by his deeply missed and loving wife, JoAnn, his adored son, Edward Anthony Curry III and his cherished sisters Lorraine Blake and Janet Curry and his brother Robert Curry. He was also pre-deceased by his sister-in-law Marie (Muscella) Gianatasio and brother-in-law James Gianatasio.
Visitation will take place on Sunday evening July 2, 2023, from 6 pm-8pm, at Simcox-McIlvaine Funeral Home, 532 E. Main St, Lansdale, PA 19446 and again on Monday morning, July 3, 2023, from 9 to 10 am at Saint Stanislaus Catholic Church, 51 Lansdale Ave, Lansdale, PA 19446. Edward’s Funeral Mass will immediately follow the viewing at 10 AM. Interment St. John Neumann Cemetery in Chalfont.
Ed was a good man and will be missed by all his family and friends.
