Lewis F. Reid—6/27/2023

Lewis F. Reid, of Lansdale, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2023, surrounded by family and friends. He was 73.

Born on July 27, 1949, in Philadelphia, Lew was the youngest of Edward William and Doris Norma (Talmon) Reid’s three children. As a young man, he taught himself the art of restoring antique and classic cars; this led to a lengthy career elevating them to national-level prize-winning masterpieces. He completed vehicles for many individual clients as well as Tastykake and McCaffrey’s Food Markets. Lew worked for many years at Glazier’s Mustang Barn in Souderton and also ran his own business. Over time, Lew passed on his knowledge to his fellow enthusiasts to help ensure that top-notch restorations continue into the future. All the while, Lew’s keen sense of humor kept those around him laughing.

He is survived by his brother, Edward (Teresa), of Plantation, FL; his brother-in-law, Dennis Haines, of Spruce Head, ME; and his nephew, Michael Haines (Deborah), of Warminster, PA. Lew was predeceased by his parents as well as his stepfather, E. Richard Evans, of Pembroke Pines, FL, and his sister, Marilyn Haines, of Spruce Head, ME.

A funeral Mass will be held at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, 51 Lansdale Avenue in Lansdale, PA, on Thursday, July 27, at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will begin in church at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow in the church’s cemetery. Memorial contributions in Lew’s name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

  1. Lew was such a a kind soul and he had such a a great sense of humor. Our short time together will never be forgotten as I was too young to know better. I will miss you Lew❤️

  2. I knew Lewie when he was about 14 in Miramar, FL. He lived next door. My hobby was repairing mechanical things & Lewie would come over to watch, learn & help. He was definitely mechanically inclined. I gave him his first car (white English Ford) although he was too young for a license he fixed it up & drove it around the neighborhood at 14! After he relocated to PA he came back to visit. He told me about his prospering business restoring antique vehicles. I was proud I had given him his first car. I was thinking about him today & wondered how he was. I am so sad to hear of his passing just 6 months ago. My regards to his family. Dennis Oakes now Fort Myers, Florida.

  3. He was the absolute nicest human being of whom I’ve ever met in the state of Pa. I’ve never met a man who was so calm, polite and mannerly. If you look up in the dictionary gentleman, Lou’s name be directly beside it. He will be missed. Trinda

  4. Lew had the wonderful ability to make and keep friends for a long time. I had the privilege of being one of his friends. Our friendship lasted all these years since 1970 when we first met. Although we dated seriously for a time and he taught me many things about cars, eventually our paths in life took us in different directions. Even so, our friendship lasted. In some cases, we were also friends of each others friends and families. Lew was always invited and a special part of our family celebrations; even more so these last few years. His humor and wit matched his genius with classic cars and he always sparked up conversations. Last year, I asked him if he would like to be a Catholic. He said, Yes. He was confirmed a Catholic on April 18, 2023. He must have spent all the energy he had achieving this great goal. He received the Last Sacraments only 2 months later. Thank you, Lew for your friendship and love all these years. I will miss you.
