Albert (Al) Vincent Pauzano–8/30/2023

Albert Vincent Pauzano (Al, Bert, Peanut) died on August 30, 2023, in Cape May Court House, New Jersey, at the age of 77, surrounded by his loving family in his last days.

Al was born January 9, 1946, to Albert and Jean Pauzano and was raised in the Germantown section of Philadelphia and spent his youth playing sports with his friends at Happy Hollow playground. He attended Saint Joseph’s Prep and graduated from North Catholic High School in 1963. He then attended Allentown College of St. Francis de Sales in Center Valley, PA where he was a member of the CRABS fraternity and was also in the inaugural class there. He graduated from St. Joseph’s University with a bachelor’s degree in history.

Al’s loyal commitment to his family was the proudest measure of his life.  Al met his true love Janet at Avalon’s Bongo Room and they married in 1970. Their 53 year marriage was a testament to their love and care for each other, in sickness and in health. They shared their lives together as active members of Saint Teresa of Avila parish in Trooper, PA, moved to Lansdale, PA, in their later years and then finally retired to Cape May Court House, NJ where they most loved the quiet months of their favorite beach towns of Avalon and Stone Harbor and watching the ocean together. Al also loved Notre Dame football and always shared a meaningful Vince Lombardi quote to inspire when needed.

Al served a long and dedicated 31-year career as an Archdiocese of Philadelphia Catholic School teacher and coach. He lived and breathed his vocation in these roles, coaching football and serving as a disciplinarian and history teacher at Bishop Kenrick High School in Norristown, PA. He would later serve in administration, teaching and coaching roles at St. Pius X High School, Cardinal O’Hara High School, St. Joseph’s Preparatory High School, and his final years as a history teacher at Lansdale Catholic HS. He has been remembered by his students for his thoughtful speeches about life and working hard. Al retired from teaching in 2003 but he always kept in touch with his students, providing guidance and mentoring to his students through the years. One of the highlights of Al’s years of service came in 2007 when he was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Michael Petrone Foundation, an organization started for one of his former students.

Al is survived by Janet, his dedicated wife of 53 years who always took such good care of him, his daughter, Nicole (Slamm), son Michael (Brigitte) and daughter, Julie (Stephen Deans) as well as his brother, Louis Pauzano (RoseAnne) of Philadelphia, PA. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Will, Olivia, Amalia, Meredith, and Alexander. Nothing made Al happier than watching and following his grandchildren’s sports and activities and hearing how they did in school. He was the proudest Papa and was their mentor and guide too!

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Al’s Viewing on Friday Evening, September 8, 2023, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, 51 Lansdale Ave., Lansdale, PA 19446, and a second Viewing on Saturday Morning, September 9, 2023, also at St. Stanislaus, from 9:00 to 10:15 AM. Al’s Mass of Christian Burial will take place immediately following at 10:30 AM. Interment will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Cheltenham, PA

In remembrance of Al, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to the following:  Michael Petrone Foundation (PO Box 242, Kulpsville, PA 19443) or Gift of Life Donor Program (www.donors1.org). The family would also like to thank the dedicated and compassionate doctors and nurses who cared for Al through the years.

  1. Wow definitely a great man to have worked for in his time of need. We always joked if he felt like a 49 year old women 😂 😂. We definitely shared many laughs. Movie talks and he talked about everything in the news. He welcomed my husband and I in his new home in cape may. Beautiful home. FYI I hope the neighbor got to know Mr P and his lovely wife. Some how they tried to take Mr P smile away.

  2. I’m glad I was able to make it on Saturday to pay my respects to just a great guy and to celebrate a life well lived. Mr. P was my “boss” when I worked in the discipline office at Kenrick. It was awesome. He’d get me out of class on days when they were swamped and needed extra help! And we all shared lots of laughs. I’m glad I was able to stay in touch over years. Lots of love to Jan, Nicole, Julie, Michael and the grandkids. I’m sure you are honored to know how much everyone loved your Dad. It’s one thing when you think your Dad is awesome, but it’s really cool when you realize everyone else thinks so too!

Love, Joanne Schaaf Khavari, BKHS ’79

  6. Rest in Peace Al- My dearest friend and colleague in the teaching and coaching arena. Al, you certainly lived your life the way you ministered to your many students. Fight hard, keep the faith, never give up, be a friend to everyone, do your best in all you do, always treat everyone with a smile, and , most of all, love your neighbor as yourself. Our deepest condolences to Jan, his amazing wife 53 years and his wonderful family. If the Good Lord needs a real disciplinarian to any wayward kids up there- He’s now got the TOP man for the job !! Much Love and Respect- Mary Jane and Bob Wagner.

  7. Al was a terrific friend and classmate while at Allentown College. I wil miss our bantering about the Eagles and Phillies. A priest once told me that only good people get to Heaven – Al was a good person and he in in Heaven. RIP old friend.

  8. It’s unusual to be able to say that you have known someone for so long that you can’t recall ever not knowing him. For me, that was Albert. There is a five month difference in our ages, and we grew up a block from each other in Germantown. Our parents were friends, our grandparents were friends, and Albert’s aunt and uncle were my godparents at baptism.

All that being said, we saw each other sporadically over the years, but whenever we did, we were always able to pick up as though we had seen each other only a day or so before. In recent years, we shared several phone calls, messages, and emails, mostly about his family and my inquiries about his health.

The best tribute I can pay to Albert is that in all these years that I knew him, I can honestly say that I never heard him speak ill of anyone, never heard him gossip about anyone, and never felt anything from him but his sincere friendship. To be with him was to share laughter.

All of us who knew and loved you will miss you, my friend.

  9. Dear Jan, Our condolences to you and to your children. Yes, a sad time. The world is now a smaller place. A light, a search light, we looked for is not here. We will remember all the moments with you and Al. And we will look for his searchlight to help us find our way as we stumble. A fine man. “True blue”. A true husband, a true Dad, a true grandfather.
    Love, Mary Ann and Joe
