Barry William Bintliff–9/17/2023

Barry William Bintliff, age 73, died Sunday September 17, 2023, at Grandview Hospital, with his wife and best friend of 15 years, Anna Maria Tamaro Bintliff, by his side.

Born on November 25, 1949, in Harriman Hospital in Bristol, PA, he was the son of George W. III and the late Elaine (nee. Eisenbrey) Bintliff. In addition to his wife and father, he is survived by loving daughters, Brooke Janisak (Jonathan), Kristel Goulet, and Heather Mela (Andrew), grandchildren, Madeline, Mae, and Jon Janisak, Athena Goulet, Benjamin and Evelyn Mela, sister, Kim O’Boyle (John) and stepson Michael Tamaro (Martina).

Resident of Edgley, Bristol Township and Harleysville, Montgomery County. Graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School class of 1968 and Lock Haven University class of 1972. Barry’s love of wrestling as well as other sports began in high school. With his college degree in health and physical education, he spent 30 years working in the  Philadelphia School District, teaching at Penn Treaty Middle School and wrapping up his career as Dean of Students at Lincoln High School. In addition to coaching wrestling, softball, football and tennis within the school district he coached his daughters’ community softball teams as well. 

After retiring from the Philadelphia School District, Barry pursued many hobbies. He followed high school and college wrestling religiously. He was also an avid Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies fan. He found immense joy and fulfillment while participating in the Montgomery County Senior Softball League. Barry cherished the connection with fellow players, friendly competition and the chance to challenge himself physically and mentally. Barry had a passion for fly fishing which he shared with his grandfather, father and Uncle Lee. His father and Anthony Genovise (d) founded the Paulinskill Catch and Release Fly Fishing Club below Blairstown, NJ. He found immense satisfaction in sharing his knowledge and expertise with his fishing buddies as well as his children and grandchildren. Barry also loved the outdoors including hunting with his father, Uncle Lee and family friend, Fred Hibbs (d).

Barry’s compassion and devotion extended beyond his personal interests and hobbies. He supported and carried on his love for his mother throughout her fight against MS. He also took on the role of a caregiver with unwavering dedication, ensuring the well-being and comfort of his 95-year-old father. Barry also cherished his relationship with his beloved children and grandchildren. They brought immense joy and laughter into his life, and he embraced every opportunity to create lasting memories with them. Whether it was playing games, listening to their stories, or simply being a source of guidance and love, Barry’s presence in their lives was a constant source of warmth and affection.

On behalf of Barry’s family, we would like to express our deepest gratitude for the overwhelming support and love extended to us during this incredibly difficult time. Your presence at the funeral, the kind words, thoughtful gestures, and the countless acts of compassion have provided us with immense comfort and strength. Your unwavering support has reminded us that we are not alone in our grief and that our cherished memories of Barry will forever be shared among a community of caring individuals. We are truly humbled and thankful for each and every one of you who has reached out and offered your condolences. Your love has been a beacon of light during this dark period, and we will forever hold it in our hearts.

In addition to his mother, he is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, William and Alice Eisenbrey, paternal grandparents, George and Edna Bintliff, brother, Dean A. Bintliff, sister-in-law, Shirley Bintliff and his stepson John Tamaro.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Barry’s viewing on Wednesday morning, September 27, 2023, at Simcox-McIlvaine Funeral Home, 532 E. Main St., Lansdale, PA 19446, from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM, which will be followed by his Funeral Service.

Interment Private at Newtown Cemetery, in Newtown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Barry’s name may be made to www.mpnresearchfoundation.org to help fight blood cancers associated with myeloproliferative neoplasms.

  1. A true gentle giant. I always admired his ability to reach his wrestlers on a whole different level and help them realize, whether or not they won their match, they always won!!!
