John Patrick Murray, MD–9/30/2023

John P. Murray, MD, age 91, of Blue Bell, Pa., passed away Saturday September 30, 2023 peacefully at his home, with family by his side.

He was the beloved husband of 65 wonderful years to his loving wife Joan (nee. Walsh) Murray.

John was born October 21, 1931, to the late Ignatius L. Sr. and Mary (nee. Guiniven) Murray and was the 2nd of 6 children who he was blessed to consider his closest friends.

He was the beloved brother to Msgr. Ignatius Murray and Msgr. Thomas Murray and predeceased by Msgr. Joseph Murray, Elizabeth Kelly, and Mary Ann Murray.

He was the loving father of three children, John “Johnny” Murray (deceased), Lizanne “Muffie” Janssen, Kathy Wood (Mike) and the extremely proud grandfather to Carter Janssen, Jenna Janssen, Christian Wood (Tiffany Toni), Danielle Wood & Nicholas Wood.

He was a graduate of LaSalle High School, The University of Notre Dame, and the Jefferson Medical School where he went on to practice family medicine in Norristown, Pa., for 35 years as a respected and dedicated physician.

John was deeply devoted to the Catholic Church and was a living embodiment of his faith. He was a strong role model to all who knew him, through his soft words, kind and gentle demeanor, and his dry but witty sense of humor.

He cared for and treasured his family and many lifetime friends and enjoyed spending time with his many cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was an avid golfer and enjoyed rooting for the Philadelphia Eagles, the Phillies and most of all the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame.

His Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, October 5th, 2023, at 11:00 am at Epiphany of our Lord Church at 3050 Walton Road in Plymouth Meeting. Visitation precedes the Mass beginning at 9:30 am.
