Anthony Vito Vona, lovingly known as Tony, passed away on May 9, 2024, at the age of 92. He was born on June 8, 1931, in South Philadelphia, PA, and most recently resided in Lansdale. His heart now reunites with his beloved wife, Gerry Vona (nee: Farabella), who left this world just 4 months ago.
Tony was truly a man of diverse interests and heartfelt dedication. For over 25 years, he poured his heart into serving at St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church, where his volunteer work and presence as a cherished church member left a lasting impact on the community. His generosity extended to hosting weekly dinners for the priests in his parish.
In his retirement, Tony found joy in staying active by visiting the YMCA daily and engaging in friendly card games with his friends. His passion for wine making and culinary skills shone through as he spent countless hours in the kitchen, creating tasty Italian meals that brought delight to his family and friends alike.
Sports held a special place in Tony’s heart, and he particularly loved watching the Phillies alongside his adored wife, Gerry. Married for an impressive 71 years, they shared a beautiful life together.
Tony dedicated 37 years of his professional life to SKF USA Inc. where he honed his expertise as an upholstery marker, leaving an indelible mark in the industry. He displayed an exceptional level of skill from a young age, and his commitment to his craftmanship was evident throughout his career. Tony’s work ethic and passion for his profession allowed him to enjoy a well-deserved early retirement.
Family was of utmost importance to Tony, and he leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. He is survived by his three children, Deborah Johnson (nee: Vona), Anthony Vona, and Michael Vona (Alicia), along with eight grandchildren: Nicole Harahan (Bernard), Danielle Miller (Andrew), Dana Keys (Brian), Brandon Vona, Anthony Vona, Nicholas Vona, Tyler Vona (Kaitlyn), and Madison Wolfinger. Additionally, he leaves behind 11 great-grandchildren, with one more on the way this summer. His love, guidance, and cherished memories will be treasured for years to come.
Tony was preceded in death by his wife Geraldine Josephine Vona (nee: Farabella), parents Carmen and Concetta Vona (nee: Calfapietra) and brothers and sisters: Vincent Vona (Genevieve), Philomena Maiorota (Charles), John Vona (Stella), Frances Conner (Jasper),
Josephine Martella (Edward), Gilda Ondrejka (Joseph) and Orlando Vona (Olga). He is survived by his youngest sister Rita Tropiano (Joseph).
Tony’s commitment to his community went beyond his family and faith. His dedication to St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church and his volunteer work there touched the lives of many, making a lasting impact on his community. Anthony Vito Vona will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, and great-grandfather. His warm smile, generous spirit, and culinary skills will forever be cherished by those whose lives he touched. May his soul find eternal peace.
A Funeral Mass is planned for Thursday, May 16 at 10:30 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, with family and friends able to pay their respects starting at 9:30 am. Burial will follow mass at Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to Tony’s memory can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
The Simcox McIlvaine Funeral Home in Lansdale, PA, is assisting the family with the funeral arrangements.
Uncle Tony was always so kind to me and always made me feel special. Not only was he the most handsome of all the Vona brothers, but he was a loving and supportive husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. You could tell how cherished his family was to him. I will miss him.
