Gerard J. Castry, 66, passed suddenly from this life on Thursday, May 23, 2024, in Lansdale, PA after dealing valiantly with the debilitating effects of Lewy Body Disease for several years.
He married on October 22, 1999, in Yonkers, NY to Laura LeBarron. They were best friends and constant companions for nearly 45 years, meeting when he was 21 and Laura was 17.
Gerard was a lifelong target shooter and competed in both state and national rifle championships. He was captain of the Roosevelt High School Rifle Team and later had the honor of coaching rifle teams at both Roosevelt High School in Yonkers, NY, and Fordham University in the Bronx. He was a Range Officer at Coyne Park Rifle and Pistol Range in Yonkers for 12 years and held NRA Certification as a Range Officer and as a Rifle/Pistol/Shotgun Instructor. After moving to Pennsylvania in 2004, he continued to enjoy the shooting sports at local clubs, serving for several years as the Director of Smallbore Matches at University Rifle Club in Reading.
Gerard was born August 14, 1957, in Yonkers, NY, the son of Anthony and Marie (Minne) Castry. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1975 and went to work in the manufacturing area, as a Material Coordinator for A.S.E.A, Inc. in Yonkers and as a Production Planner Supervisor for Avitech (maker of hydraulic and electrical ground support equipment for airlines) in Port Chester, NY. He later spent 13 years as Production/Facilities Manager for V-Band/IPC Information Systems (maker of specialized telecommunications equipment) in Westchester County, NY. His last position was with Frontline Communications (an Internet service provider) as Director of Operations in Pearl River, NY.
Gerard will be remembered as a very kind and generous man, always willing to listen to and support friends and family. He kept a cool head in times of upheaval and was legendary in his ability to plan and carry out difficult tasks. He had an innate ability to understand machines and mechanical systems and loved to tinker with things.
In addition to his widow, Gerard is survived by three nieces, Regina Markham (David), Jessica Jardon, and Victoria Holt (Michael), several cousins, and beloved pet rabbits, Bandit and Rosie. He was predeceased by both parents, and a brother Chrisopher Castry.
