Joanne Jane Walker Darden–10/25/2024

Joanne Jane Walker Darden, a lifelong resident of Norristown, PA. passed away at Abington Hospital, Abington PA. on October 25th, 2024 at the age of 81yrs old.

Joanne was born to James Julius and Rebecca Evans Walker on April 24th, 1943. She had two siblings: Carol Terry and James J. Walker Jr. Growing up, Joanne was nicknamed “Granny Grump” because of her moodiness but later in life she was so proud to be called Mom-Mom. None the less, she was a quiet studious child with a will to better herself and leave her mark on the world.

Joanne graduated from North Penn High school in June of 1961 and was accepted at Sacred Heart Hospital school for Xray Technicians on a full scholarship. She committed herself to Christ and was baptized at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Penllyn, Pennsylvania on November 1st, 1962.

She completed her studies at Sacred Heart Hospital and on June 27, 1964 at 21, she married Rudolph Darden and remained married to him until his death in 2012. Joanne spent her free time knitting, crocheting and Cross Stitching where she joined a group and traveled with them to various cities and states in search of new threads to use.

When Sacred Heart Hospital closed, she moved over to Montgomery Hospital and worked there until her retirement.

Joanne enjoyed her church activities and trips with her late mother, her sister and extended family members. She adopted and loved dearly:

  • Jackie and Derrick Hall and their children Drew and Alissa Hall.
  • Michael and Andrean, (Shauna) Williams and their children Sean-Michael and Jordan Williams.
  • Dwayne (Ricky) and Darlene Hall and their children Brynae and Nalhya. She was so proud to be called “mom-mom” and looked forward to celebrating all of their birthday’s and milestones

These three families were a large part of Joanne’s life and she cherished all of her time with them.

Joanne leaves to mourn her sister, Carol Terry and her brother, James Walker Jr, his wife, Veronica Walker; 5 sister–in-laws on the Darden side of the family and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and extended family members,
