God gently called Ruth Ann Pitts, 97, to her eternal rest on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at the Dobson Home in Wilmington, Delaware, with her daughters by her side.
Ruth was born in Princess Anne, Maryland on March 14, 1928, to the late Theopolis S. Jones and Audrey L. Jones. She was the oldest of three children.
Ruth was educated in Somerset County School System and later received a Certificate as a Certified Nursing Assistant in Salisbury, MD. She met her sweetheart, Andrew David Pitts, to whom she was married for eighty years. From this union five children were born.
Ruth was a quiet, caring person that displayed high integrity. She believed in achieving goals through hard work, effort and dedication. Ruth successfully pursued her goals and accomplished a lot in life, setting an example for her family.
She was an excellent provider who supported her husband and worked hard to ensure good educational opportunities for her children and grandchildren. After working in Cosmetology, Ruth joined K-Mart Food Services in Salisbury MD, where she retired after 40 years.
Ruth was a loving anchor and matriarch for the family. She emphasized to her children and grandchildren the importance of staying in school, graduating, and walking in faith in God. Her message to her family was, “Always ask God to direct your path in all that you do.”
She instilled foundational values: “Keep a roof over your head; Keep your utilities paid; and try not to hurt people.”
Ruth loved serving Jehovah’s Witnesses and was a Pioneer for many years,—visiting residences, writing letters, placing phone calls, and participating in Zoom meetings well into her 90s. This part of her life brought her great joy and fulfillment.
One of the fondest memories of her from her grandkids is her good, home cooking—especially the sweet treats that we could always count on. There are so many warm memories of summers in “the country,” holiday feasts, and other family gatherings with ice cream and cookies, and her famous strawberry jam!
Ruth Ann Pitts precious and cherished memories with her 3 surviving daughters , Dorothy Jean Jones, Anne Lee Edmunds and husband, Allan, and Patricia Denise Dobson and husband, Kevin; 8 Grandchildren: Theresa Walsh, Tyrone Walsh and wife Lillia; Keami Lewis and husband, Ralph, Tammy Jones, Angela Blue and husband Dennis, Kimberly Braxton and husband Cliff, Kendra Dobson, and Kyle Dobson and wife Ellen; 7 Great grandchildren: Nashia Collins and husband, Kenny (aka Junior), Keneisha Smith, Kahleo Smith, Ralphie Lewis and fiancé Danielle, Bianca Kirsch and husband Nate, and Little Cliff (aka CJ); 9 Great-Great Grandchildren: Christian, Randy, Grant, Kenji, Aaric, Kendrix, Rhys, and Michael; Nieces and nephew June Brumfield, Marilyn Stevenson, Deborah Robinson and Robert Taylor.
