Mary Elizabeth Cunningham, age 93, passed away at Brittany Pointe Estates, Lansdale, PA on March 13, 2026. She had chosen Brittany Pointe as her home more than 25 years ago.
Born in December 1932, Mary was the only child of James Burke Cunningham and Florence (Adelman) Cunningham (both deceased) who lived in on Ridge Ave and Willow Grove Ave in northwest Philadelphia. She was very supportive of her community on Ardleigh St. in Chestnut Hill.
After moving to Brittany Pointe, Mary became an integral part of the Brittany Pointe community and served as president of the resident council.
Mary was educated by the Sisters of Mercy in Philadelphia before they moved to Gwynedd, PA. She graduated from St Joseph’s College (St. Joseph’s University) and worked for Smith Kline (GlaxoSmithKline). In her varied positions within the Research and Development areas of the company, Mary worked her way from a Secretary to Medical Liaison and carried out clinical trials globally. Her tenacity and intelligence propelled her in an area uncommon to women of her era.
Mary collected many figurines and depictions of elephants over the years. One of her most treasured gifts was a pencil sketch done for her to commemorate the elephants leaving the Philadelphia zoo.
She continually aided the Sisters of Mercy at 515 Montgomery Avenue, Merion, PA 19066 and the Little Sister of the Poor, 5300 Chester Ave., Philadelphia 19143.
Mary is survived and will be greatly missed by her many cousins and 2nd cousins and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Corpus Christi Parish, 900 Sumneytown Pike, Lansdale, PA on March 27, 2026 at 10:30 AM. Guests will be received in the narthex of the church for beginning at 10:00AM. Interment will be at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery, Cheltenham.
Mary requested donations to the charity of the donors choice, in lieu of any flowers.
We would like to thank the staff and residents of Brittany Pointe Estates and especially Willow Brook for the loving care and support of Mary. She loved her home at Brittany.
