Richard John Sciutto, age 90, passed away on Friday May 5th, 2023, in North Wales, PA. Richard was born on November 15th, 1932, to Stephen and Lucy (Cavacini) Sciutto. He grew up in Port Richmond and attended Mastbaum Trade School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955 and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War.
On June 16th, 1962, Rich married the love of his life, Livia Marie (Nicolo) Sciutto, and together they had three sons, Stephen, Richard, and Mark. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Livia, sons Stephen Sciutto and his wife MaryAnn, Mark and his wife Kelly Jordan-Sciutto, and their children, Jay and Alec Sciutto. He is also survived by his beloved sister, Linda Golay and her husband Alain. Rich was predeceased by his father, Stephen, his mother, Lucy, and his sister, Madeline Mitchell. He is also reunited with his son Richard, who passed away at the age of 12.
He was a long-time member of the Carpenter’s Union (Local 1856) and took great pride in his work. He was a master craftsman and cabinet maker, who was affectionately nicknamed “The Doctor” by those who had the pleasure of seeing him work. His work and his work ethic will forever be remembered by those who knew him.
His commitment and love for his work was only exceeded by his commitment and love for his family. He was a devoted husband, a caring father, and a doting grandfather. Through his actions, Rich always put family first, whether it was proudly cheering on his grandsons at their events or welcoming new members to our family with open arms and genuine love. He was also very proud of his Italian heritage and lit up when talking about his trips to Italy to see family.
He was an avid Phillies fan and enjoyed a range of hobbies over the years, including stained glass design, fishing, gardening, and doing puzzles.
Rich was a gentle man of few words, but his actions spoke volumes. He was tireless in his willingness to help others, especially when he could share his craft. His “handy work” has enriched many homes, but his generosity in sharing it is what has left the most lasting impression. He lived a life of integrity, kindness, and authenticity. Even as life presented him with adversity, he took things in stride and never complained. Anyone who met him invariably described him as “a good man.” For those who knew him best, that goodness was a gift more amazing than anything he made with his hands.
A Funeral Mass will be held in Rich’s honor at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, 51 Lansdale Ave., Lansdale PA 19446, on Friday, May 12th. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m., with services beginning at 10:30. Burial will be at Our Lady of Grace Cemetery in Langhorne, PA.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude’s Research Hospital.
Rich will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. May he rest in peace.
