Josephine Maltese, daughter of the late Salvatore and Josephine Biondo, passed on May 15, 2021 at the age of 85 surrounded by her adoring children and grandchildren.
In Palermo, Sicily, Josephine had met the love of her life, Nino, at just 11 years old. She came to America in 1955, where she and Nino would marry in 1956. Known for her beautiful blonde hair, impeccable outfits and her signature high heels, Josephine had grown to be a fixture in the community, especially at Nino’s Pizza. A “Reserved for Momma Nino” sign adorns her favorite booth. If Josephine wasn’t at the pizzeria, she could almost always be found at church. She had such an incredibly deep devotion to her faith and would spend hours praying for her family, friends, and even those she didn’t know. Josephine had a reputation for being able to make miracles happen – so much so, people would frequently reach out to her asking her to pray for them or their loved ones. And she always did – always wanting to help everyone. She had such a big heart and generous spirit. Josephine was incredibly special to all that were lucky enough to know her.
Josephine was the essence of a true matriarch and loved nothing more than time with her family. She is survived by her children, Margaret Maltese, Philip Maltese and his wife, Christina; her grandchildren, Gabriella Cerminara and her husband, Nicholas, Anthony Maltese, Joseph Chapman, Angelina Chapman, Philip Maltese, and Madison Maltese. She is also survived by her brother, Mario Biondo. Her passing was preceded by her late husband, Nino Maltese, and son, Salvatore Maltese.
She was a remarkable woman and will so very much be missed.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during Josephine’s viewing, which will take place from 9:00-10:45AM on Monday, May 24 at Mary Mother of the Redeemer Catholic Church (1325 Upper State Road, North Wales, PA 19454), followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00AM. Her burial will take place at St. John Neumann Cemetery.
