ELAINE C. HART
3/15/1934- 9/5/2025 age 91
Lansdale Pa

Beloved mother, devoted grandmother passed away peacefully after a long journey with Alzheimer’s disease. She is survived by her son James Hart, Lisa Borkowski and grandson John Borkowski.

Elaine was born to James and Helen Cooney in the Germantown section of North Philadelphia. She had three siblings James Cooney, Donald Cooney – deceased and sister Anne Brogan Langhorne PA.

She attended St Benedict’s Catholic grade school and Little Flower High School.

She was married to James Hart (deceased 2009) her husband of 52 years in 1957. They lived in the Logan section of Philadelphia and then in 1959 they bought a home in the Oxford circle section of Northeast Philadelphia.

From that point on, her life was dedicated to creating a loving and caring home environment and being a full time homemaker and mother, first with the birth of her son Jim in 1960 and then daughter Lisa in 1963.

It was during this time that she developed her talent as an excellent home cook and baker. Her love of home décor shone through in the beautiful interior spaces she created in the small rowhome.

She loved holidays and especially Christmas where she tried to create a magical time with carefully chosen presents, decorations of delicious food. She loved Christmas music above all other types of music.

In her early forties she began a 25-year career as a manager of a Wonder Bread Hostess shop in Northeast Philadelphia.

She began her role as a loving grandmother with the birth of her grandson John Borkowski.

She doted on him and took hundreds of pictures to document every special occasion and life stages during his childhood.

She spent 15 years as a volunteer lunch mother at St Stanislaus parish grade school.

She loved to bake cupcakes for the kids and the faculty – becoming known as the “Cupcake Queen of Lansdale”

She retired at age 85 but still remained active with the St Stanislaus Senior group creating home made baked goods for the meetings.

She loved to entertain and had numerous dinner and holiday celebrations with large numbers of guests. She always made enough food for an army.

But food was her way of showing love and she spent hours tirelessly cooking and serving to friends and family. Every holiday was an occasion for special foods and baked goods.

On St Patrick’s day she made her famous and enormous shamrock shaped Irish soda bread and corned beef and cabbage wrapped in puff pastry.

And we listened to classic Irish music! She could never get enough of McNamara’s Band by Bing Crosby. We watched the Irish themed movie “Quiet Man” with John Wayne as an annual tradition.

Her other hobby was travel. She documented over 75 trips during her lifetime throughout the Untied states, the Caribbean, Aruba, Germany, Austria. Ireland and Switzerland.

Over the past ten years she became a dedicated Phillies fan and faithfully watched all the games.

She loved the Golden Girls reruns and Hallmark movies- especially those with a Christmas theme.

Shopping and finding bargains at the supermarket, dollar store or the department stores was another great passion. Even at age 91 she would walk unassisted through all the stores and stop numerous times to meet and greet the little kids and babies. She had an enormous love for children and would light up whenever she saw a baby or toddler.

On July 24, 2025, Mom fell and broke her shoulder. She spent a week in the hospital and then checked into the Horsham Center for Rehab.

Over the course of five weeks she went into a rapid decline and then fell into a coma-like state on August 30th until her death a week later on September 5th.

Relatives and friends are invited to a viewing from 9:00 AM to 10:15 AM on Thursday, September 11, 2025 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, 51 Lansdale Ave, Lansdale, PA 19446. Elaine’s Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 AM.

There will be a Luncheon at the William Penn Inn after Mass beginning at 12 Noon.

  1. Lisa and John,

I was so saddened to hear about your mother/grandmother’s death. For many years she brightened my day at school as she smiled at me as we arrived for lunch. I enjoyed hearing about her travels and could see how very much she and John loved each other. May God be a consolation to you and your family at this time. Best wishes to you both. John, did you know there is a Frank Lloyd Wright program on Magnolia at the moment? If you are still a FLW fan, I’m sure you would enjoy it. (Always a teacher. I can’t help it.) Kathie Kaffenberg

  2. Lisa I am so very sorry to hear of the loss of your mom. I know how hard that particular loss can be. I imagine she looked forward to those birthday teas every year with great joy, and all the time spent with Johnny and you and your brother. May she rest easy, knowing what a lovely family she created. You and your family are in my prayers. God bless. 🙏🌷🩵
