John Firda, 81, of North Wales, PA, passed away peacefully at home on May 8, 2026. Born in Taylor, PA, on January 9, 1945, to the late Andrew and Sylvia (Matechen) Firda, John lived a life defined by dedication to his students, his community, and his family.
A proud graduate of Penn State University, John turned his passion for craftsmanship into a career as an educator for the Pennridge School District. He spent decades guiding students through the transition from traditional metal shop to modern technology, always staying ahead of the curve as an avid Apple computer enthusiast. When he wasn’t in the classroom or tracking the stock market, John could often be found in his workshop or cheering on his beloved Nittany Lions, attending home games at Happy Valley with Sharon.
John’s kindness was evident in his devotion to animal welfare. A dedicated volunteer with Stray Cat Blues, he was a true “cat dad” who provided a loving home to many feline companions over the years, including Molly, Scruffy, Max, Teddy, Becky, and Rosebud.
He is survived by the absolute love of his life and wife of nearly 58 years, Sharon (married July 6, 1968); his brother, Andy Firda; his nephews, Andrew and Dan; and his niece, Karen.
Relatives and friends are invited to John’s Viewing on Thursday, May 14, 2026, from 12 noon to 1 PM at Simcox-McIlvaine Funeral Home, 532 E. Main St., Lansdale, PA 19446, with a Service following at 1 PM.
Interment will be at St. John Neumann Cemetery.
