With deep love and cherished memories, the family of Owen (Pop-Pop) Coyle announces his peaceful passing at the age of 101 on August 5, 2025, surrounded by the warmth and devotion of the family he so deeply loved. Owen was a long-time resident of Lansdale, Pennsylvania.
Owen was born in Burnfoot, County Donegal, Ireland, on July 27, 1924, the son of Henry and Ellen (née Breslin) Coyle. When Owen turned 18, he worked in England before immigrating to the United States in 1949, with little more than a suitcase and a heart full of determination and hope. After arriving in America, he met Catherine Coyle (née Johnston) of County Antrim, Ireland, and they married in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on June 19,1954.
Owen was a man who believed that family came first, and he lived that belief every day of his life. He settled into a humble life, making a career at R. T. French’s Company for over 40 years. After living in Philadelphia for 12 years, in 1966 he moved his family to Lansdale and became a dedicated parishioner of St. Stanislaus. After retiring from French’s, he started a landscaping business, serving customers around the Lansdale area until he was 98 years old.
He was married to his beloved wife, Catherine, for 40 beautiful years until her passing, and together they raised nine children, instilling in them the values he held dearest: honesty, loyalty, kindness, humility, and the unwavering power of love.
The true heart of the Coyle family, Owen was the center of every gathering, a source of wisdom, laughter, and steadfast love. Whether telling an Irish joke, or quietly holding one of his grand- or great-grandchildren, he made every moment count. His presence alone could fill a room with warmth.
Owen was an inspiration to many. His actions spoke louder than words. His resolve and fundamental values of hard work, honesty, faith, and family first have shaped multiple generations. He leaves behind a legacy that spans 22 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren, each of whom carries a piece of his spirit. To them, he was not just a patriarch, but a guide, a storyteller, and a hero. His lessons—spoken and lived—will echo through generations.
Owen is preceded in death by his loving wife of 40 years Catherine (Kitty) Coyle (née Johnston), his son Patrick Coyle, and his brothers and sisters Sarah Deehan, John, Neil, William, Harry, Rose McCallion, Mary Doherty, Patrick, and James. He is sadly missed by his sister Bridie McCallion (Buncrana, Ireland).
Owen is survived by his beloved children: son William and Paula Coyle (née Manes), daughter Kathleen Rice (née Coyle) and Donald Rice, daughter Mary Ellen Moran (née Coyle) and James Moran, daughter Elizabeth Bagley (née Coyle) and Jeffrey Bagley, son Owen and Diane Coyle (née Nacy), son Michael and Kathryn Coyle (née Krohn), son John Coyle, and son Brian and Joan Coyle (née McNichol), and his 45 grandchildren and great-children.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, August 11, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church, 51 Lansdale Ave., Lansdale, PA 19446, where his family will receive friends at his viewing from 9:00 a.m. to 10:50 a.m., in the Church prior to Mass. Interment will follow at St. John Neumann Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Stanislaus Church (address above) or the Philadelphia Catholic Charities Appeal in Owen’s memory.
Though we grieve his loss, we celebrate a life lived fully, honestly, and generously. Owen’s was a long and meaningful journey, one marked not by grand achievements, but by the immeasurable impact of a man who loved deeply, worked humbly, and gave selflessly.
“May the road rise up to meet you, and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand.”
Pop-Pop was loved. He will be missed. And he will never be forgotten.
